Central Spirit

I remember the first time I picked up a paintbrush with the delusional optimism that I could transform my drab apartment into something straight out of a glossy magazine spread. Spoiler alert: the only thing that spread was the paint—everywhere. My living room quickly morphed into an abstract art piece, and not the kind that.

I once made the mistake of thinking moving with my family would be a breeze. After all, how hard could it be to box up a life? Spoiler alert: it’s like trying to catch a tornado in a teacup. Picture me, a frantic conductor, orchestrating chaos as my kids turned packing into a hide-and-seek extravaganza,.

I once opened my kitchen cabinet and was greeted by a leaning tower of canned chickpeas and a bag of quinoa so old it could probably vote. A culinary graveyard, if you will. It’s not that I didn’t have ambitions of becoming the next plant-based prodigy; it’s just that life—city life, with its siren call.

I once found myself in the throes of a particularly existential crisis, clutching a brochure for a quaint little condo that promised “urban living with a touch of nature.” As I stood there, my mind was a battleground between the allure of ownership and the sweet freedom of renting. The words of the real estate.

I’ll be honest—my so-called ‘wellness space’ began as a desperate attempt to escape the tornado of dirty laundry and existential dread swirling in my apartment. Picture this: me, sprawled on the floor, contemplating the necessity of yet another scented candle I’d impulsively purchased in hopes of conjuring serenity. Spoiler alert: Jasmine Vanilla doesn’t magically erase.

Cleaning and I have a complicated relationship. Picture this: a sun-drenched Saturday morning, the world beckoning with possibility, and there I am, hunched over a mop like a character out of a tragicomic play. You see, I’ve made peace with the fact that my apartment will never gleam like a showroom—it’s more of a “lived-in”.

I once tried to spruce up my shoebox apartment on a budget that could barely cover a decent cup of coffee. Picture this: me, armed with a paint roller and a Pinterest board, thinking I could transform my drab walls into a masterpiece worthy of an art gallery. Spoiler alert: the only thing I transformed.

I once tried transforming my urban cave into a sanctuary of peace. Spoiler alert: it was a disaster. Picture this—me, armed with a paintbrush and the misguided optimism that a few strokes of “soothing” lavender would somehow drown out the city’s relentless symphony. It didn’t. Instead, it felt like I’d imprisoned myself in a pastel.

I remember the first time I tried to turn my patch of urban chaos into a sustainable Eden. Picture this: me, armed with a trowel and a naïve dream, standing knee-deep in a sea of weeds that could swallow a small dog. I thought I’d have a verdant paradise in weeks. Spoiler alert: I grew.

I remember the first time I fell for the eco-cleaning product trap. There I was, standing in the fluorescent purgatory of aisle six, clutching a bottle with a label so green it practically screamed “savior of the earth.” I felt like a hero, a knight in biodegradable armor, ready to wage war against the filth.
